Grade 10 camp!!

It’s already three weeks ago that I updated my blog- alot has happened in the meanwhile! I’ll start from the beginning though…

Three weekends ago we went on the grade 10 camp and it was amazing!! Marloes and I more or less volunteered to go along the camp, just so that we would have the camp experience. We went away for the weekend with 160 pupils and 8 teachers (including us). We went to a place not that far away from school. It was only a 45 minute drive- but wow! What a difference. We totally were in the middle of nowhere, nothing was close by- just hills and grass and rocks- that was about it!

Twee weekenden geleden zijn Marloes en ik mee geweest met het grade 10 (3e klas) kamp en het was echt geweldig!! We waren min of meer vrijwilligers zodat we ook eens konden ervaren hoe het is om op kamp te gaan met de leerlingen. We waren met 160 leerlingen en 8 docenten (inclusief ons). We zaten echt ergens in de middle of nowhere- maar slechts 45 minuten van de school vandaan. Er was niets dichtbij, er waren alleen heuvels, gras en rotsen en dat was het wel zo ongeveer!

It really was fantastic to be on the camp. The pupils didn’t have to wear their uniform and suddenly their own personalities appeared. It was really nice to see them and to get to know them better in an informal setting!

Het was echt fantastisch om meet e gaan met het kamp. De leerlingen hoefden niet hun uniform aan en ineens kwamen hun eigen persoonlijkheden te voorschijn! Het was echt heel erg leuk om de leerlingen te zien en beter te leren kennen in een informele omgeving

Luckily for us teachers there was a facilitating team that organised all the different activities! We only had to assist them (score for example) and sometimes call the kids to order. But it actually was a nice outing for the teachers as well!

Gelukkig voor ons, docenten, was er een facilitating team dat alle activiteiten organiseerde! Wij hoefden alleen maar af en toe te helpen (bijvoorbeeld de score bijhouden) en af en toe de kinderen tot orde te roepen. Eigenlijk was het dus ook een leuk uitje voor de docenten!

We got an important visit! Mrs. Hurlin, Dr. Hurlin and their friend from America (that was how she was introduced to us, so I don’t know her name) came to see how it went. This was my chance- I finally got a picture with her on it! Just guess which one Mrs. Hurlin is!:) Also on the picture are Mrs. Klaas and Mrs. Ntamu.

We kregen ook belangrijk bezoek! Mrs. Hurlin, Dr. Hurlin and hun vriendin uit Amerika (dat was hoe ze werd voorgesteld, dus ik weet haar naam niet) kwamen even langs om te kijken hoe het ging.
