Yesterday I worked, once again, at the fishshop. It was a very exciting day! Yesterday the results of the national herringtest 2007 was published in one of the national newspapers, and... we had the second place!! The test panel had been to 102 different stores and in the top 5 there were 3 fish shop´s who´s owner is from Tholen. As said we were on the second place. The first place was for the cousin of my boss- so the fame stayed in the family:) Here I am hanging up balloons in the tree in front of the store as a sign of celebration:)
Our 'grade' was a 10- and the comment said: "all taste buds are dancing around, shouting with joy. This is it! Melts on the tongue. Mild, saltish and creamy. Worth a detour!" As you see that got the attention of a lot of people...
Here the people who got us the fame- especially my cousin John (front) who is always gutting the herring and treats it like it is a special treasure. Next to him Nico, a colleague, my aunt Marianne and my cousin Joost. We got all sorts of presents, varying from champagne to flowers to chocolates to stroopwafels:)
We even got the attention of the TV, they came with a small team to interview my uncle and cousin and various people who were eating herring. They stayed for about 2 hours and were recording everything. Sort of annoying because it already was so busy and then a camera following all your moves... But it was a fun experience:) There also came several journalists and photographers for articles and pictures in several (local) newspapers... It was definitely an exhausting day- but also a fun day!
